Many younger fans in the U.K.have no idea how hard life was for female boxers not many years ago. That's why the fighters of today owe so much to Jane Couch MBE who took on authority almost alone just to be allowed to fight in the U.K.Janes life was typical of many a male boxer in many ways,being expelled from school,followed by a cycle of trouble until at the rather late age of 26 she found her way into boxing.Her first bout being in Muay Thai when she ko'd a serving police woman to her great delight. Her cause wasn't helped in the U.K.by the lack of suitable opponents one early one was Jane Johnson a girl who despite being game often fought with little or no defence. During a career that lasted till December 2008 she won 28 and lost 11 bouts,which hardly gave her a top ranking in comparison to many of her American opponents.The fight featured here dates from 2003 where she lost a U.D.against Lucia Rijker.
