NOSTALGIC FOR CAMP AMAZON.
One fan who wrote recently had a valid point when he said that we in the UK were lucky in how close we often were to the action. He was of course refering to the distance in miles that fans were from events put on by the likes of Festelle. In comparison to the miles a fan would have to travel in the States. The point was raised with reference to his wife who some years back would have loved to take on the girls from Camp Amazon, but living so far away the idea was a non starter. The couple of hundred miles I have often refered too between Manchester and London doesn't bear thinking about in comparison to our friends journey between the Canadian border and California.
Just to remind him of what he would have loved to watch a clip from Judelle's home camp.
That was really good. I've bought several downloads featuring Camp Amazon events and will be getting more. They were full-blast on devotion and competitive effort from one of yesteryear's premier fem wrestling enterprises. (Wouldn't be a bit surprised if those women could still compete.) Judell Dulong was a superb pioneer. (Based on Web reports, she had 2 fem wrestling camps, right ? ... The first was in California -- near San Diego ? -- and I think the second was in Montana ? I know there are older posts about this ...)
ReplyDeleteThat fan's wife would have really enjoyed going and his lament about distance preventing him and his wife was probably shared by a lot of people.
From what I remember reading, Judell was a great entrepreneur, participant, coach and advisor. She would have provided a warm welcome and hospitality to everyone.
Judell Is my grandmother, She is alive and well and resides with me in Washington State. She had a total of three wrestling camps: California, Montana, and Washington. Her "girls" are as a feisty as ever and several of them have asked Grandma for a reunion match. I will pass on the kind words that you shared about her today! ~Jacqy
