I and a number of fans in Europe have often wondered about the background to these bouts.
Were they done for a DVD/Video audience,or were they for one of the many pay per view tv channels in the States?

Yes, I believe they were eventually featured on select pay-per-view channels Stateside. It's been some years but I believe I recall a pay-per-view promotion showcasing these events back then.
