Just a Thought 74.
BREXIT!!!
For the benefit of our friends who are watching from a distance a brief run down of what if anything is going on.
Latest news suggests that a deal may have been done, but it looks highly unlikely to get a pass in Parliament and very likely cause an election.
So why did we vote for out?A question I'm often asked as one of those with many friends in Germany and Spain who as lived and worked in both.
Like many people believe it or not my arguement as never been with Europe but with the way UK Government interpret European Law.Most of the nonsense coming out of the European Parliament is totally ignored everywhere but in the UK where we form a department employing hundreds to persecute the people.
Just one from a few years back was the introduction European weight measures,a market trader continued to sell his wares in pounds and ounces because it was easier for older people to understand authority came down on him like the proverbial ton of bricks,at one stage even threatening a jail sentence.
In Germany when the Euro was introduced a comparison price in Deutsch Mark was often seen,I don't recall anyone being arrested for that.
In a similar way if the cost of a packet of fags is around £4 in Spain and we are all part of Europe why then are the same fags almost ten pounds here in the UK?
On a more crazy note if almost every large town and city in Germany as a brothel or brothels all legal under European law then why can you be prosecuted here for operating the same business?
Had I got the money I would long ago have opened one just to test the law in court.
On the lighter side the pictorial interest here is European and one of the few things my ex and I agree on,what I fancy so does she!!!
Over here in 'Murkinland, the Brexit developments probably generate as much interest as the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace ... Yes, we paid attention back when the UK voted to leave but as time went by everyone over here saw this was going to take an inevitable long, arduous time for the UK to do it ... Since then, our news media continue to provide updates but the reaction over here is when (and if) it happens then we'll believe it ... and if it does happen, it appears there's not much to barf about ... The UK is not going to pull up the ramparts and isolate itself and the EU is not going to die ... and everything will eventually settle down (like it always does) ... The other point we're getting vibes about over here is it looks like a lot of people in Parliament (and throughout the UK in general) are having second thoughts about leaving the EU and they want (if and when the UK leaves) to make it a so-called "soft" exit ... We in 'Murkinland can understand this because of how we perceive how integrated all of Europe has become ... So we don't look with favor upon the UK leaving but we understand it's none of our business ... All we want is peace, prosperity (and definitely) order, stability and security for all of Europe for its own benefit (and also no doubt because of our own economic and military associations over there) ... and lately, our President is not making too many Europeans happy with how he's relating to Europe (as you already know) ...
ReplyDeleteWe can definitely understand how abiding by EU law according to how you interpret it (or maybe how you're required to interpret it) can be a Big Pain in The Arse ... It gets complicated and makes daily life that much more trouble to cope with ... If the EU yakkin' and blabberin' is basically ignored by others but you're going full-blast employing hundreds of people to manage EU compliance then I have to say congratulations ... You're starting to act like the 'Murkinland federal gubbermint, which pokes its damn nose in basically everything we do over here ...
Commodity pricing is also definitely a cause for upset ... If cigarettes, tobacco products or anything else is so much more expensive after importing when the EU is supposed to make the cost of goods more or less equal for everyone who's under EU regulations, it figures most people will start to believe someone somewhere is scamming the hell out of everyone everywhere ... and then the real resentment builds and you're on the way to revolt ... As far as the brothels go, you have to understand that's a case of where a nation has to remain autonomous to regulate because what's morally acceptable in one nation (whether it's a business or not) might not be to another nation ... If general, pan-European or EU law says it's alright for prostitutes to do business that's probably by default because prostitution really has no bearing on European transnational economic or geopolitical consequences for member EU nations (which is what the EU is set up for) ... If the UK doesn't allow prostitutes to do business in the UK and general, pan-European or EU law in general does, why should anyone in the UK raise hell about that based on what the rest of Europe, the EU, Germany or any other EU nation says ??? ... Answer: You really shouldn't ... because (to be direct about it) that matter is none of pan-European (or general EU) law's damn business in the first place and shouldn't be used as a crutch for legalizing prostitution in the UK (or in any other European nation) ... That's part of the UK's sovereign business ... If anyone in the UK has a problem with that, you go to your representatives in the UK Parliament, not the European Parliament ...
... and, at any rate, as far as the images go, whether one is on holiday or just on a casual visit, at least one is always able to get a good and admiring view.
