1950's Star!!!!

Was super 8mm filming around in the 50's?Or were the camera's used still the type used in early films with a sound track added?One thing that stands out to fans in the UK is the  almost sexy outfits of Lindy and her opponents considering the all enclosing leotard styles worn this side of the pond during the 70's and well into the 80's.
